The Agon is a new writing competition from The Base. It takes its inspiration from the Ancient Greek festivals where the public voted on the best new play of the year. The Base put the call out to fearless new writers to express themselves. Nothing is off limits. Extracts from the work of six finalists will be performed on the night.

The Base is bringing back a competitive, democratic, and genuinely dangerous spirit to new writing. The Base's mission is to revive the true meaning of the great masterworks and inject excellence, depth, and vitality into new writing. Through the dramatic arts, we are inspiring audiences to engage with the Western canon on a deeper level and freeing playwrights to be bold, provocative, and courageous.
